We have a meeting coming up on the 8th of april ,6:30pm at the shop.
This might be a good time to discuss what it is that you the members would like from your club and which direction it should take !
More racing, more coaching, more trips or more what ? lets get some ideas out here before then so we know what it is we all want !!

My personal opinion........

As clubs go we are relatively small in number. When I look around it seems that clubs of a similar size concentrate their focus on one discipline. As a result their events and rides are well attended by the vast majority of their members.
OKCC - road riding events
North Devon Wheelers - road riding events
Oke freeriders - mountain biking events
North Devon Tri - triathlon
Launceston CTC - recreational road riding
I guess what I'm trying to say is are we trying to cover too many areas of cycling? Some of which seem to generate little or no interest from the majority of club members.
If I step back and look at what events interest the majority of members and get them out on their bikes I would think it's the following:
1. Club XC - getting more popular and always well attended and marshalled by members.
2. Wednesday night MTB rides - ever popular and varied. 7pm on a January night you will find members riding in Bude/Minions/Dartmoor - sometimes a group at each location on the same night, all Bude CC members.
3. Saturday Morning MTB rides - again well attended by members each week.
4. Big days out on MTB's - one text from someoneone going to Exmoor or the Quantocks can end up in 10+ Bude CC members going along for the day.
5. Wales trip - Can't remember off the top of my head but there must have been 15 or so of us who went. That was pretty much booked up in a couple of days.
6. External MTB events - eg Soggy Bottom/Nightrider 12. Not a club event but always a consistent number Bude CC members.
7. Road TT's - New league system seems to have attracted quite alot of interest.
8. Sportives - a healthy member entrance number.

I think the coaching side of things has been successful and always well attended by the kids but the members who turn out to help are generally the same ones. Obviously the coaching is required in some format but looking at it coldly, does it really excite or interest the majority of Bude CC members? When the same people turn out to help each time I would say probably not. I'm not saying 'no coaching', it has to stay in some format (and I want it to), but maybe the interest just isn't there from within the club membership.

Perhaps as a club we need to mainly focus on the disciplines undertaken by the members, which interest the members and which are well attended by the members. I think that is maybe the list above is a good starting point.

I appreciate that some members are not interested in Mountain biking or TT's and my opinion is 'not a size that fits all' but I'm merely 'getting some ideas out there', as 'Mintsauce' has requested

Regards

This week I have had the oppertunity to speak to some other bike riders (MTBer's I must addmit) and asked them how come they havn't joined the club, there seems to be two main reasons.
1. they think that the club is all about racing and training. or
2. that the club has nothing to offer them that they can't do with out spending the £12.

What can we do to put this right ?
